On Thursday 26 February 2015, Leeds University’s event space, The Refectory, played host to the annual University RAG (Raising and Giving) Fashion show where 28 Westrow stylists from across its eight salon group worked backstage on 73 models.

An event organised by a team from the University of Leeds fundraising society, the Leeds RAG Fashion Show (LRFS) has become one of the biggest nights of the university’s social calendar, and helps raise much-needed funds for local and national charities.

A VIP reception with 250 guests were welcomed and serenaded by the a cappella group, The Ashatones, before receiving goodie bags from Propercorn, the Body Shop and Benefit.

The show was an attack on the senses, with music curated by Flux and a woodland-inspired set built by Loco. Among the labels exhibited were Hellavagirl Boutique and Victoria’s Secret Pink, designer clothing store Accent and Lambert’s Yard, Annie Oakes and elaborate knitwear by Carlo Volpi.

Backstage, hairstylists from Westrow’s eight salons ensured all 73 models were groomed to perfection. Using a selection of products provided by Sexy Hair and electrical styling tools from BaByliss Pro, the Westrow team created eight distinctive looks, ranging from the extremely high ponytails to heart-shaped updos and slicked back hair in a high-fashion, wet-look style.

The hair by Westrow was complemented beautifully by make-up looks, crafted by the team from HD Brows, using products from the 80-strong Make up by HD Brows collection.

LRFS 2015 raised more than £17,000 for its two charities, Leeds Mind, a Leeds-based charity that works with more than 600 local people with mental illness to help them overcome obstacles and reduce the stigma surrounding mental health issues; and the Richard Mayne Foundation, a Leicester-based charity set up in memory of a much-loved, much-missed University of Leeds student and which aims to inspire and enable children and adolescents with Type 1 Diabetes to live life to the full.

Said Westrow Director Steve Rowbottom: “The Westrow Artistic Team thoroughly enjoyed their time working backstage at this year’s Leeds RAG Fashion show, styling the hair for 73 models. With such a range of looks and styles required on the night the team’s talents were put to good use, with stunning results. We look forward to collaborating with the brand again in 2016.”
